Your term of service is for two (2) months.
If you attend the Petit Jury Orientation, two Monthly Calendars which cover your term of service will be hand delivered to you which will note your assigned juror number. If you watch the online Video Orientation, the Jury Division will mail you your assigned juror number along with the two monthly jury calendars. Keep your calendars in a prominent location to remind you when to call in to find out if you are needed for duty. You must call in the day before your number appears on the calendar. The Code-A-Phone number to call is 575-523-8285. The recording is available after 5:30 p.m. the day before you are scheduled to appear. The recorded message will notify you if you are to appear for a trial or if the trial has been canceled. It is important that you listen to the entire message. You need to listen for instructions pertaining to your juror number only. Remember, failure to comply may result in a Contempt of Court citation.
The calendar on the next page is a sample of what you will receive on a monthly basis. On the sample calendar, locate your juror number. Example: if your juror number is 402 you would be scheduled to appear on the 2nd, 6th, 13th, 15th, 19th, 22nd, 26th, and 29th of that month. You would need to call the day prior to the days you are scheduled to appear. In this example, you would call after 5:30 pm. on the 1st, 5th, 12th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 25th, and 28th.
The calendar information will assist you in scheduling doctor appointments, vacations, and providing notification to your employer. If you find a conflict on any of the days you are scheduled to appear, contact the Jury Division immediately. The court will excuse you on those days you cannot appear only.
